Before going ahead to explain the different types of acne let us first find out what acne is, and what causes it?
Acne
Acne is a kind of skin disorder, which can occur at any stage of life, but majorly affects the teens. The excessive production of the sebum by the oil glands, also called sebaceous gland, causes acne. This excessive production of sebum is usually due to the action of hormones on the oil glands; because of this the pores are plugged and result in outbreak of lesions, generally called as zits, acne or pimples. We usually see the face which is affected by acne, but as a matter of fact, acne can appear anywhere on the body like neck, shoulders, chest, back etc.
You might be surprised to learn that acne is the most common skin disorder or disease, on the whole planet.
Teens are most conscious about acne on their faces and try different ways to remove pimples from their face quickly; however it is nice to learn about natural ways as to how to get rid pimples fast. Unnatural ways might do more harm than good.
Different Acne Types
Acne is a very common problem, so usually people don’t differentiate between different types of acne. It would be interesting to know that all acne we see don’t belong to one and the same <> category. From a tiny red rash to a big cyst filled with pus, acne can have many forms. It is possible that different kinds of acne are inter-related; meaning that they develop from one form of acne to another. But, they may also be completely independent in origin.
There exist many variations of this disorder. The severity can range anywhere from mild to severely disfiguring.
The differentiation in different forms of acne is usually based on the size and form; it also would depend on whether that particular kind of acne is non inflammatory or is inflammatory.
To begin with acne is so small that it is not even visible through a naked eye; only a microscope can see it. At this stage acne is called microcomedo. It can develop into a whitehead, also called closed comedo, or a blackhead, which is open comedo.
Then there are pustules, papules and nodules. Pustules are yellow in appearance and usually pus-filled. Papules are mildly inflamed. Nodules are large inflamed swellings.
Broadly, acne can be divided into following categories:
Acne Vulgaris
Acne Vulgaris can range anywhere from mild to severe. Blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules, cysts etc are all included in the category of Acne Vulgaris.
Acne Rosacea
Acne Rosacea is very similar to Acne Vulgaris. It is people above 30s that are mainly affected by this kind of acne. Acne Rosacea generally affects the face part only, including, chin, nose, cheeks and forehead.
The severe forms of Acne
There are other forms of acne which are quite severe in nature; it includes Gram-Negative Folliculitis, Acne Fulminans, Acne Conglobata, and Pyoderma Faciale (Rosacea Fulminans). These severe forms of acne are not very common, but if they affect a person then they really affect one badly.
